Matt Fortier

Director, Innovation Engine

Matt Fortier is the Senior Manager for STARs Studio at Opportunity@Work. In this role, he employs design thinking and a collaborative approach to enable individuals who are Skilled Through Alternative Routes (STARs) to achieve wage mobility.

Matt has extensive education and workforce experience, ranging from international exchange programs and higher education to workforce training and employment programs for vulnerable populations, such as refugees. He is passionate about bringing equity to the workforce space so that everybody can not only secure a livelihood, but also find dignity through work. 

Most recently, Matt served as Director for Student Engagement at Georgetown University’s Beeck Center for Social Impact & Innovation, where he built and led experiential learning programs to engage students in cross-sector social impact work. Prior, Matt led the International Rescue Committee’s Economic Empowerment Program in Silver Spring, MD, partnering across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors to equip refugees and other immigrant populations with the skills and knowledge for economic self-sufficiency and self-efficacy. 

Matt recently obtained his Executive Master’s in Leadership from the Georgetown University McDonough School of Business. Previously, he graduated with his BA from Tufts University, majoring in International Relations and Philosophy. He speaks conversational French and beginner Spanish. In his free time, you can find Matt outdoors – with mountain biking, climbing, hiking, and camping atop his list of favorite activities.
